Stock Exchange
An exchange is the regulated marketplace where shares are listed and traded.
Stock exchanges such as the New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq and London Stock Exchange provide the infrastructure for buying and selling shares: listing standards, order matching, and published prices. A company's listing venue determines its trading hours, quote currency, and the rules it reports under.
Exchanges also give rise to the indices that define coverage like ours — the S&P 500 draws from US exchanges, while the FTSE 100 covers the largest companies on the London Stock Exchange.
